COMPUTER SCIENCES DEPARTMENT

1. The Computational Intelligence and Health Informatics Research Group (CIHIRG): ): is interested in how intelligent technologies can provide novel ways of solving problems in different areas of human endeavors especially challenges that are beyond human capacities or abilities especially in the areas of agriculture and health in Eswatini, Southern Africa and Africa.

2. The Cyber Security and Forensics Research Group (CSF): is looking to promote research in cyber security and forensics so as to continually produce world class knowledge and foster the development of highly successful Cyber Security professionals in Eswatini. Mathematical modelling.

PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

3. Computational Physics Group: This research group is primarily interested in using computational techniques to solve problems that range from basic science to real life problems.

4. Energy Group The energy research group focusses on research that is aligned with national interests. Members are currently involved in studies on renewable energy technologies, climate change and green house gases, energy policy, energy supply and consumption, etc.

5. Radiation And Health Physics Group: This research group intends to focus on research that is aligned with national interests. It seeks to play a leading role in radiation studies on Eswatini's environment and health impacts of the radiation.

6. Weather and Climate Change Physics Group This research group focuses on problems of national interests. It uses Eswatini's weather data in modeling various aspects of climate physics and climate change.

GEOGRAPHY, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT

7. Urban and Rural Geography Research Group: This group focuses on research relating to urbanization and settlement patterns, urban sustainability, greening cities, waste management, and agricultural geography, sustainability and food security.

8. Environmental Change and Conservation Research Group This group focuses on climate science/modelling, climate change (adaptation and mitigation); trend analysis, land use and land cover change, people and protected areas, and conservation, biogeography.

9. Natural Hazards and Disasters Research Group: This group focuses on research relating to geography of natural hazards, wildfires, floods, lightning, disaster reduction and preparedness.

10. Human and Social Geography Research Group This group focuses on research relating to disease patterns, crime geography, population and settlement geography, economic geography, socio-economic analysis and surveys.

11. Geomorphology and Archaeology Research Group This group focuses on pure and applied wetland geomorphology, rehabilitation and management, soil erosion and land degradation and appropriate rehabilitation, archaeology and preservation/conservation of heritage sites, cave geomorphology and geoarchaeology.

12. Soil/Land and Water Resources Management Research Group This group focuses on research relating to elementary land surveying studies, soil survey and analysis, water resources planning, management and utilization, basin studies and hydrogeology.

13. Geospatial Information Science Research Group This group focuses on research relating to applied geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing (RS), machine learning in GIS and RS, environmental and spatial modelling, cartography and map production techniques.

CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT

14. Natural Products Research Group : This group focuses on natural products mainly from medicinal plants. The focus characterisation of phytochemicals as well as isolation of biologically active compounds which can be used in drug development.

15. Pollutant analysis and remediation in environmental samples The energy research group focusses on research that is aligned with national interests. Members are currently involved in studies on renewable energy technologies, climate change and green house gases, energy policy, energy supply and consumption, etc.

16. Nutrient analysis of food products : This group focuses on nutrient content in indigenous food stuffs and other foods consumed in Eswatini.

17. Ecological Research (Monadjem-Mahlaba Lab) :

  • Rodents in and around homesteads: impacts on food security/agriculture, economics and health

MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT

19. Applied and Numerical Analysis Research Group: This group is focused on the development and analysis of numerical methods for solving mathematical models of real-life processes described by differential equations.

20. Mathematical Sciences Research Group (MSRG): UNESWA-MSRG is a group of mathematical sciences academic researchers and graduate students, who work collaboratively with representatives from industry on research problems submitted by the local industry.

21. Mathematical Modelling Group: The mathematical modelling group is part of the UNESWA COVID-19 research group. The modelling group is mandated to construct and analyse mathematical models (based on Eswatini data) to study/describe the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 in Eswatini.

22. Fixed Point Theory and Optimisation Research Group: The major research interest of this group is in area of approximating solutions of variational inequalitiy problem, optimization problems and fixed point of some nonlinear operators and their applications to social and physical problems.
