Vision
Leadership through Excellence in Science, Technology, Innovation and Engineering Education.
Mission Statement
The Department grew out from the Department of Physics and is now a stand-alone department under the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The department aims at excelling in research, scholarship and provision of education which gives its graduates enhanced career opportunities and contributes to national development. The department is located in its own building within the Kwaluseni Campus of the University of Eswatini. Within this building, seven laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities are being developed for teaching, research and community service.
Programme Offerings
The department currently offers a five-year programme leading to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This programme prepares undergraduate students to design, operate, and maintain (and possibly do research in) systems such as:
- Electrical Power and Energy Systems;
- Electrical Machines;
- Electronic Communication Systems;
- Computer Engineering and Embedded Systems;
- Industrial, instrumentation and process control systems;
- Signal Processing and embedded controllers; and
- Mechatronic Systems.
- This programme includes a period of attachment in industry.
Links
The department links with industry for mutual benefit and practical training of students and with international institutions for joint projects.
Community Service
The department hosts a strong Engineering Students Association and maintains contact with its former students through the Alumni Association. Open days for schools and the public are arranged from time to time. Short courses for continuing engineering education are also arranged.
Research
The department aims at research which addresses technological problems in the country and promotes joint international research.
Industrial Attachment
Every student is required to undertake a period of practical training in industry between the fourth and the final years of study. The Department encourages industry partners to support students’ training by granting opportunities for students to gain work experience in their industries during the long vacations, and to give professional guest lectures which inform and motivate the students.
